Kathleen struggled all day yesterday and around 7:30 appeared to be on the verge of vomitting. She visibly fought it [previous to her injury she hated throwing up and willed herself not to and only threw up once during our entire marriage...a legend like Jerry Seinfeld's feat :) ]. After succeeding in her battle not to throw up, Kathleen fell asleep and wasn't suctioned out the entire evening.

Feel better Kathleen. I'm with you on the barfing and I know it must be so much harder for you right now. You are a brave and lovely woman. Hope you get some comfortable rest. Another SUSD mom, Lorelei

I think this is significant and encouraging. :) Vomiting is a very basic, reflexive response that's hard enough to control even without a brain injury. The fact that Kathleen visibly fought against today's vomiting (along with the fact that you said she was always like that before the injury), makes me think her personality is still intact, just "trapped". :(

After all, if Kathleen had no sense of self and/or no control over her actions, she would have vomited just like a baby or a dog does! Babies and dogs don't talk themselves out of vomiting, because they don't have a sense of self, plus they don't know how to control those reflex actions.

I didn't mean to get gross. I just found this whole thing to be very encouraging. And I'm sure you'll accept all the optimistic thoughts you can get. :) Kathleen remains in my thoughts and prayers. - Shari
