Kathleen is staying well during this dangerous time of the year for patients with PVS or are minimally consciouss. The most likely cause of death (which also robs them of an opportunity to get better) is pneumonia, so keeping Kathleen healthy is very important.

Stem cell hope replacing hype.

I would recommend that Kathleen get both a flu shot and possibly the RSV vaccine Synagis (if eligible). It would also be wise for yourself and other caregivers of Kathleen to be revaccinated for Pertussis (Whooping cough). The immunity for this childhood vaccine wears off and it is around in the community. My thoughts are with you!

I empathize with your diligence in keeping Kathleen healthy, and am thinking good thoughts for her, as I often do. :)

My dad has advanced COPD, and on top of that is elderly (83), so we're always paranoid he might get sick this time of year. Even a cold has the ability (tho we hope NOT!) of causing him to develop pneumonia and/or congestive heart failure. :( We all get flu shots, of course, and take other precautions too. Here's to keeping Kathleen, my dad, and ALL of our loved ones healthy this season! No harm in thinking positively, right?
