Kathleen had a mixed day while her husband's was a nonstop nightmare. The potentially only good time, the kids halloween walk was somewhat marred by Kathleen throwing up shortly after they left. The kids, dressed as a dog and cat (initial digital photos did not turn out), did manage to score oodles of candy nonetheless and returned home to show mommy their booty.
Potentially good news for the future of brain repair with this
study.

Kathleen had a good day watching one of her favorite movies Witness and being read to by Rachel. It wasn't such a good day for Kathleen's other daughter though.
10/29/05
Kathleen had a good day. She seeemed relaxed and looked beautiful. After Samie left for a "princess sleep-over party" there was a large gathering for the barbeque this evening with "Buddy the Elf" and a pumpkin making an appearance. In the evening Kathleen slept deeply and soundly.

Bee. You told me how significant song lyrics always were to you. For quite awhile I've identified with
this song , something I wanted but can't have. Sometimes, however, a song seems to be written just for you.
This one seems to speak of our current life, and makes me cry and hope every time I hear it. I love you and miss you.

Kathleen had a tough night last night. She hardly slept and had problems coughing up phlegm all night. Kathleen seemed very sad. :( During the day, however, she was able to get some rest and seemed to recover some strength.

Kathleen had a good walk with her sister-in-law, Tutu, today and seemed to be more comfortable with her food intake.
10/24-25/05
Kathleen had a good Monday and early Tuesdqy with some pleasant wheelchair rides around the neighborhood and a great massage. Suddenly out of the blue during dinner time she threw up again though. She teared up and looked incredibly sad during and after the episode.
Two interesting articles. The first discusses ways to cross the
blood brain barrier while the second discusses an upcoming test using stem cells in a
human brain.

Kathleen had two good days over the weekend seeming to recover from some of her lethargy earlier in the week. Still in the evening she is having some difficulty with the phlegm, but it is beginning to subside.
10/21/05
Kathleen seemed recovered today and had a very good day. She was able to get up in her chair and go on a walk. She was also able to do some light physical therapy, but she has tightened up significantly in the past few days.

Kathleen did a lot of moaning during the day and threw up in the evening. At 5:52pm, 9 days after Kaiser called Mike to leave the message that Kathleen's test for a bladder infection had come back positive. It wasnt enough that Kaiser missed her heart issues when she came in insisting there was a problem, or that they threatened her life again and again while she was in the hospital, but now they continue to give her subpar treatment while she is at home. How can our society continue to accept such poor health care. As a teacher I gave up a potentially lucrative salary for job stability and good benefits. Instead Kathleen and I have been given an HMO that took away our existence and spends its money on a advertisement
campaign filled with inaccuracies and lies. Perhaps Kaiser, or one of the doctor's responsible, will one day apologize for destroying the lives of our family, but apparently that is too much to ask.

Kathleen had a really good day today with little phlegm and several walks. Several people have noted that Kathleen said an emphatic and definite Hii the other day when greeted with Hi Kathleen by a friend who visits weekly. The family is certainly hoping her more frequent vocalization will become more focused.
Late in the night Kathleen began shaking and moaning as if in serious pain.

Kathleen had her first visit to Valley Fair Mall in nearly two years. She went with Mike, Abby, and her daughters and visited her favorite stores including Origins, Bath and Body Works, Macys, and the kids favorite Limited Too. The experience was understandably bittersweet.
10/15/05
Kathleen had an average day without much phlegm nor excitement other than the sleep over guests the girls had from across the street.
The family is putting the final touches on the creation of the Global Ischemia Foundation which hopes to encourage scientific stem cell research in the United States soon. If the scientific community doesn't initiate more research in America, more and more desperate families are going to be forced into seeking beneficial or perhaps shady stem cell options abroad such as those in
Barbados

Kathleen was tested for a bladder infection on Tuesday and there is still no word back. She seems much better and healthy, so the family assumes that all is well though they continue to force extra fluids. She is doing okay other than a mild area of potential skin breakdown that the family is watching closely.

One of Kathleen's caretakers has left for India for a month. Good luck Mani and have fun.
Kathleen had a nice reiki session this evening and went to sleep. The family suspects she has a mild bladder infection and called Kaiser over the weekend. Meanwhile, Kathleen's water intake has been increased along with cranberry juice. A nurse will be coming out tomorrow to see Kathleen.

After spending much of Saturday cleaning, the process began again on Sunday as seemingly all the work was for naught. In the late morning, the family went to the farmers market with Kathleen where they received endless furtive glances from people wondering what happened and what our family's life must be like. To be blunt, life is pain and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something.
10/7/05
Kathleen spent a quiet day with lots of one on one time with Mike. In the evening Kim and Vari came over and watched a good movie, the Interpreter, with Mike and Bean. Kathleen apparently though the film mediocre as she fell asleep in the middle of it.
10/6/05
Still beautiful, even un-primped and asleep.
10/5/05
Kathleen was awakened this morning to excited chatter from her daughter Samie who said that she was going to be Johnny Appleseed today at school."
Kathleen had a good day going for three walks today and seemed to enjoy the good weather. She had a great night and slept well.

The Global Ischemia Foundation is putting together a Board of Directors and will soon accept donations to fund research promoting recovery from such injuries and families struggling with its effects on a loved one. As of yet, there has been significantly less research dollars spent on global ishemia than the money poured into focal injuries and degenerative diseases. What research there has been, has been on making the injury less debilitating originally.
Such as http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=16179519&query_hl=2 Though this research is certainly valuable, it fails to address the problems of so many cardiac arrest and near drowning sufferers.

Kathleen had a good night which she shared alone with Mike. Kathleen looked simply beautiful and Mike stayed up a second night in a row. This time instead of tending to Kathleen, he spoke to her about their happy times together and believing in a better future.
10/2/05
Kathleen had a really rough night. She bit her lip hard when she had her teeth brushed and was up all night spitting out blood and phlegm.

Two years ago this month Kathleen went to the doctor and was told she was in Olympic level shape. Heart problems are the number on cause of death in women. Please don't let a doctor discourage you if you honestly feel something is amiss with your health. Be persistent. Apparently even four visits is not persistent enough to prevent a life altering cataclysm that has repercussions throughout an entire family unit.
Chad Kunis' mom, Jeanne, came by today to visit Kathleen and drop off a baby shower present for Kim. Jeanne informed the Daveys that Chad had been given Kathleen's medicine and her dosage. Luckily, Jeanne caught the error. The Daveys double checked their entire cabinet to make sure the same mistake had not occurred in reverse.
The Daveys helped Jeanne create a blog for Chad which will be posted soon.
Thurs/Fri
Kathleen had a good night and went to sleep early in the evening. It was her only defense against the movie that Kim, Mike, and Vari were watching (and Kathleen doesn't like) Paint Your Wagon.
