On the eve of their planned trip to Arizona. Rachel and Samie sang a duet to their mommy to "make her happy before they left." The sang a song they have learned from their singing instructor entitled "Poor Johnny One Note" and seemed to really enjoy singing it.

As the family prepares to travel to Kathleen's brother's wedding in Phoenix, the decision was not to bring Kathleen. The 13 hour car ride could potentially be just too much for her. Sadly, that means that Kathleen is going to miss another major family event. No new news on her condition, and the new medicine has not yet arrived. Kathleen is, however, continuing to follow her neurogenic diet in hopes that it might spark some cell neurogenesis.

Kathleen went to the dentist today. It was first time she had been in over a year. She did a MUCH better job this time opening her mouth and allowing her teeth to be cleaned. It was certainly clear that she has made strides over the past year in terms of relaxing when told to do so.

"We have always been told there is no recovery from persistent vegetative state - doctors can only make a sufferer's last days as painless as possible. But is
that really the truth? Across three continents, severely brain-damaged patients are awake and talking after taking ... a sleeping pill. And no one is more baffled
than the GP who made the breakthrough. Steve Boggan witnesses these'strange and wonderful' rebirths "
Kathleen is going to restart taking zolpidem (this drug) at a higher dosage. If anyone deserves to be reawakened, it is her.

This is an excellent article on what it is like to wake up daily and hope that your loved one will wake up that day...and to have a small grain of hope fall from the hourglass each morning.

The family is looking into having Kathleen try one of several alzheimer's drugs which have shown benefit in brain injured patients.

Kathleen has slept very peacefully the past few nights and her limbs have been soft rather than stiff. She has shaken more than normal, but hasn't run a temperature or exhibited any signs of illness.

Kathleen's PT came back today. Yeah!

Kathleen survived another week without her physical therapist who is hopefully recovering nicely. Extra range of motion and attention have hopefully kept her in decent physical condition.

Interesting story in the national papers about a woman in pvs.

Kathleen seems to be feeling a bit better from her infection as her antibiotics begin to take effect. She has, knock on wood, slept well the past few day sand been alert during the daytime hours.

This drug doesn't seem to provide much for those with existing brain injuries, but might be promising for those right after a cardiac arrest occurs.
