Mike spoke with Dr.
Steindler, head of the
Mcknight Brain Institute in Florida who is doing some exciting research regarding regenerative medicine. Dr.
Steindler was on the west coach helping
CIRM decide on
research grants for embryonic stem cells. The
committee parceled out over 150 million in grants to dozens of groups.
There has been several encouraging updates on stem cells in politics recently such as the news that
the Democrats plan to revive embryonic stem cell bill that Bush vetoed.

Kathleen had a test scheduled today to test her responsiveness to the neurogenic diet. Unfortunately, she was unable to keep the extract down and vomited repeatedly. For much of the rest of the day she was very tired and dozed off repeatedly.
For those who have loved ones of their own who are in situations similar to Kathleen, please visit the new Global Ischemia anoxic registry. There is strength in numbers.

Scam or Treatment?
Kathleen was able to go on a walk and have dinner with much of the family for Thanksgiving yesterday. The food and company was excellent. The frustration about 'being thankful' continues.

Kathleen has experienced several close calls with emesis episodes, but so far has been able to keep her meals down.

Kathleen had a tough weekend. Due to supply changes at Apria, her food, Jevity, is no longer covered. She tried her new food for the first time on Friday night and promptly threw up. Throughout the weekend she has experienced several other close calls but has kept her food down. Hopefully time will clear up both the food issue and the endless issues with supplies.

Kathleen tested and intense dose of the neurogenic diet over the course of three hours today to see if it had an effect on her alertness. It was hard to measure, but she did take the dosage without the predicted nauseous and showed a bit more alertness. Unfortunately, there was no 'Awakening" like the movies though. :(

Kathleen had a tough night. She threw up several times after her feeding was complete and spent much of the rest of the evening trying to cough out what she had aspirated.
Mike's night was more emotionally difficult rather than physically difficult after having to dig through old pictures of the family to find an picture of Samie as an infant for school. It was especially bittersweet to find an old love note from Kathleen amongst the pictures.

Great article regarding the 'stem cell debate' with an especially poignant quote from a Republican congressman.
